Ultraviolet light is divided into 3 categories: UVA, UVB, UVC.
UVA rays ("aging rays") penetrate deep into the skin's surface, releasing free radicals and causing DNA changes that can result in skin cancers.
UVB rays ("burning rays") can cause surface tanning and burning.
UVC usually do not penetrate the Earth's surface thanks to the ozone layer.
To protect you from both UVA and UVB rays, check if your sunscreen offers broad-spectrum protection. Many chemical UV absorbers provide inadequate UVA protection. The SPF factor only refers to UVB protection. To make sure you are protected from UVA rays, you should choose mineral sunscreens containing zinc oxide which offers a high degree of UVA and UVB protection.
Our products use a concentration of 25% which is the maximum level allowed in the EU.
Yes! To prevent sunburn, reduce the risk of skin cancer, and decrease the likelihood of early skin aging, you should wear sunscreen every single day of the year, no matter what the weather is like.
Only one of the two UV perpetrators, UVB, is actually lessened by clouds and winter. The other, UVA, is very much present year-round. Even when it's overcast, up to 80% of the sun's rays are still being absorbed by your skin. And the presence of snow can nearly double the amount of ultraviolet radiation that hits your skin.
Chemical sunscreens include myriad ingredients that work together to absorb UV rays across the UVA/UVB spectrum. The common active ingredients in chemical sunscreens include oxybenzone, avobenzone, octisalate, octocrylene, homosalate and octinoxate. They are known to irritate sensitive skin and contribute to the degradation of coral reefs.
Several countries have banned these chemicals and others are in the process of banning them. Oxybenzone is a potentially hormone-disrupting chemical that is readily absorbed by the body.
Mineral sunscreens like Arc Suncare sit on the surface of the skin. Tiny particles within the cream form a physical barrier that acts like a mirror, reflecting UV radiation away. Bridging the gap between safety and aesthetics, Arc’s active ingredient, zinc oxide, is naturally derived and the only active ingredient that protects against the full spectrum of UVA and UVB rays.
Our environmentally friendly, mineral zinc sunscreens offer the same broad-spectrum protection without the chemicals that can harm or irritate sensitive skin, or cause further damage to coral reefs.
Yes, mineral sunscreens are generally better for sensitive skin because they generally do not cause skin irritations or allergy outbreaks. In rare cases, zinc-oxide may cause a minor allergic reaction. Please visit your dermatologist if this occurs.
We also add Vitamin E and Jojoba oil for their anti-inflammatory and moisturizing properties.
Zinc Oxide is a natural mineral that provides protection against ultraviolet rays. Zinc has always been well regarded as the best broad-spectrum UV protector available, but was not widely used because of its whitening effects.
Arc Suncare uses a special zinc oxide that has been developed over the past 20 years by our technology partners. Through patented processes and extensive research. they created a type of zinc oxide that provides a high degree of broad-spectrum protection and dries clean to the skin.
We are as transparent as possible and only add ingredients to our formula that are necessary. Here is the complete list of ingredients:
Zinc Oxide Non-nano zinc oxide, 25%w/w
Coco-caprylate/caprate An ingredient obtained from coconut that helps the skin to repair itself.
Glycerin A natural moisturizer that’s also in our skin.
C9-15 alkane Natural fatty acids
Simmondsia chinensis (Jojoba) seed oil Jojoba is a drought-resistant evergreen shrub native to South-western North America. It's known and grown for jojoba oil, the golden yellow liquid coming from the seeds (about 50% of the weight of the seeds will be oil). Jojoba oil moisturizes the skin and makes it soft and supple.
Polyglyceryl-3 Polyricinoleate A plant based ingredient that helps water to mix with oil
Cera alba (White Bees Wax) It's a natural material produced by honey bees to build their honeycomb.
Polyhydroxystearic acid Helps to distribute the pigments nicely and evenly on the skin.
Maltodextrin It's a little helper ingredient coming from corn, rice or potato starch that can help to keep skin mat (absorbent), to stabilise emulsions, and to keep the product together (binding).
Isostearic acid A liquid fatty acid great for the stabilization of mineral particles in oils.
Cetyl phosphate Is a good emulsifier choice for stable water-resistant sunscreen formulas.
Tocopherol (Vitamin E) An antioxidant
Disodium EDTA A common stabiliser in cosmetic products.
Propanediol Propanediol is a natural alternative for the often used and often bad-mouthed propylene glycol. It's produced sustainably from corn sugar and it's Ecocert approved. It's quite a multi-tasker; it can be used to improve skin moisturization, as a solvent, to boost preservative efficacy or to influence the sensory properties of the end formula.
Phenylpropanol A naturally occurring floral component with a delicate scent that can mask the odor of other raw materials but is not noticeable in the final product. It also has remarkable antimicrobial and preservative boosting abilities.
Caprylyl glycol It’s a handy multi-tasking ingredient that gives the skin a nice, soft feel.
Ethylhexylglycerin A natural preservative
Sodium chloride Sodium chloride is the fancy name of salt. Normal, everyday table salt.
Arc Gentle provides mineral, full-spectrum transparent protection while its zinc oxide is certified non-nano. Its special formula provides a protective barrier on the skin as soon as you apply it.
Zinc products with larger particles tend to leave a slight white tint on the skin. Our micro-fine formula has been developed to eliminate the chalky effect. Arc Gentle is light to the touch and once rubbed in has a transparent finish.
Basically, Arc Gentle can and should be used by everyone; including people with sensitive skin, small children and infants.
Yes, all of our products have been rigorously tested for compatibility and safety. Yes, we are also cruelty free in line with European regulations.
Arc products should be stored in a cool and dry place.
Our products generally stay fresh for a long time but try to use them within a year of opening. We're certain you will.
Since zinc oxide is a phiysical blocker, it works as soon as you apply it. Use a quarter of a teaspoon for your face, and about 1.5 ounces to cover your body. Apply the sunscreen, covering your skin evenly, especially those easy-to-skip areas like your ears, neck, eyelids, and hands.
Arc Gentle is water-resistant for 40 minutes and sweat-resistant. Apply a layer after you towel off or whenever you feel the zinc has been removed.
