Why Zinc?

NATURAL MINERAL

Zinc Oxide

Zinc Oxide is a natural mineral that provides protection against ultraviolet rays. Tiny minerals within the cream sit on the surface of the skin and form a physical barrier that acts as a mirror, reflecting UV radiation away. Zinc has always been well regarded as the best broad-spectrum UV protector available, but was not widely used because of its whitening effects.

Arc Suncare

Non-nano Zinc Oxide

Arc Suncare uses a special, market-leading and certified non-nano zinc oxide that has been developed over the past 20 years by our key Australian technology partner. Through patented processes and extensive research they created a type of zinc oxide that provides a high degree of broad-spectrum protection and once rubbed in has a transparent finish.

ULTRAVIOLET LIGHT

UVA | UVB | UVC

Ultraviolet light is divided into 3 categories: UVA, UVB, UVC.

UVA rays ("aging rays") penetrate deep into the skin's surface, releasing free radicals and causing DNA changes that can result in skin cancers.

UVB rays ("burning rays") can cause surface tanning and burning.

UVC usually do not penetrate the Earth's surface thanks to the ozone layer.

CHECK THE LABEL

Choose Zinc Oxide

To protect you from both UVA and UVB rays, check if your sunscreen offers broad-spectrum protection. Many chemical sunscreens provide inadequate UVA protection. The SPF factor only refers to UVB protection.

To make sure you are protected from UVA rays, you should choose mineral sunscreens containing zinc oxide which offers a high degree of UVA and UVB protection. Our products use a concentration of 25% which is the maximum level allowed in the EU.

Chemical Sunscreens

Chemical sunscreens include myriad ingredients that work together to absorb UV rays across the UVA/UVB spectrum. The common active ingredients in chemical sunscreens include oxybenzone, avobenzone, octisalate, octocrylene, homosalate and octinoxate. They are known to irritate sensitive skin and contribute to the degradation of coral reefs.

Several authorities in the USA and Australia have banned some of these chemicals and others are in the process of banning them due to known damage caused to coral and ocean life.

Chemical filters are readily absorbed by the body and accumulate in the body at high levels.

How they affect the human body

Studies show that the same chemical UV filters can generate free radical damage and endocrine disruptions or damaging your hormones and DNA at a molecular level.
